We Don’t Just Survive—We Roar Back
Meet Anthony and Jessie Alarcon, the heart and soul behind Strokes Suck. We’re not just another stroke recovery website, we’re real people living this journey every single day, and we’re here to walk alongside you through the chaos, the victories, and everything in between.
Our Story
Nearly fifty years of marriage, and then a stroke changed everything. One phone call, one moment of slurred words, one terrifying rush to the emergency room, and suddenly we were thrust into a world we never wanted to understand the world of stroke recovery.
Anthony became a full-time caregiver overnight. Jessie became a stroke survivor fighting to reclaim her voice and her independence. Together, we became advocates, researchers, technology enthusiasts, and stubborn believers that life after stroke can still be beautiful even when it looks nothing like what we planned.
Why We Started Strokes Suck
Because stroke sucks. There’s no sugarcoating it. But what sucks even more is feeling alone, overwhelmed, or like nobody understands what you’re going through. We created this platform because we needed a place for real talk, the kind of honest conversation that happens at 2 AM when you’re worried about another stroke, or when you’re celebrating that your loved one managed to button their shirt independently for the first time.
Our Mission
We believe in the power of community, the promise of technology, and the importance of never giving up, even on the hardest days. Through our blog, podcast, newsletter, and resources, we’re building a space where stroke survivors, caregivers, and families can find practical advice, cutting-edge information about smart home solutions, and most importantly, hope.
What Makes Us Different
- Real Experience: We live this every day. Anthony understands the caregiver’s reality. Jessie knows the survivor’s struggle.
- Technology Focus: We’re passionate believers in how smart home technology and AI can transform recovery and daily living.
- Honest Approach: We tell the truth about the hard stuff while celebrating every victory, no matter how small.
- Community First: This isn’t about us it’s about all of us, together, making this journey less lonely.

He’s passionate about smart home solutions that can support recovery and believes that the right technology can give back independence when stroke tries to take it away.
